For most people, a trip to Raglan Four Square is a chance to stock up on the essentials – milk, bread or some regional produce.

For locals it's a little more than that.

Over the years, Raglan Four Square has become one of those businesses woven into the fabric of the town. It's where you'll find familiar faces behind the counter, community notices on the wall, support for local clubs and schools, and increasingly, a pretty impressive bakery section.

The store has been owned by Satnam for almost ten years, and if you've visited recently, you may have noticed construction underway yet again. The store has grown significantly under his leadership, with several expansions over the years and more improvements still to come.

It's also become a place where future operators learn the ropes. Amelia, a trainee operator through Foodstuffs' development programme, has been working in-store since August last year while waiting for the right opportunity to open a store of her own. It's a hands-on pathway that gives future owners real experience running a busy community supermarket.

And busy it certainly gets.

With more than 40 staff (and many more during peak periods), Raglan Four Square is a major local employer. Long-time team members have watched the store grow dramatically over the years, helping meet the needs of a town that seems to get busier every summer.

That community focus extends well beyond the supermarket doors.

The team regularly supports local schools, contributes towards breakfast and lunch programmes for children, helps with school stationery and sports uniforms, and sponsors local organisations including the golf club. Satnam himself is heavily involved in the community and currently serves on the local council.

As for the bread aisle?

Volare has quickly found a loyal following.

The San Francisco Sourdough remains the clear favourite, closely followed by our Grain Sourdough. On weekends, the pides are always popular, and our Olive & Thyme Sourdough has earned plenty of fans too.

One thing the Raglan crew has noticed is how many visitors already know Volare. Auckland customers in particular often head straight for the shelf looking for familiar loaves they've enjoyed before.

We're proud to have Raglan Four Square as part of our stockist network and grateful for the work they do to support their community every day.

Next time you're in Raglan, pop in, grab a loaf, and see what all the fuss is about.
