Our Place: Main Bakery Store

From April 12th, our Main Bakery store will officially be open seven days a week!

That makes it the last of our stores to make the move to seven-day trading, and felt like a good excuse to properly shine a light on the space.

A year on from opening, our Main Bakery store still feels new. Lighter, brighter and a little roomier than our previous Gallagher Drive spot, it has quickly become one of those places people stop into for one thing and somehow leave with five.

A coffee. A loaf of bread. Something sweet for later. Lunch for the office. A pie for the road.

Sitting just down the road from where we used to be, right across from the Waikato DHB building, the Main Bakery has become a bit of a hub for all sorts of people. Tradies grabbing breakfast before work. Local businesses stopping in for coffee runs. Families stocking up for the weekend. Tourists trying Volare for the first time.

It is probably our busiest store for that reason. There is always someone coming or going.

The best time to be there, though, is early.

Before the doors open, the cabinets are being filled, the bread shelves are being stacked and the coffee machine is already going. There is music playing, the team is getting organised for the day ahead and for a few minutes everything feels calm.

Then the doors open and it all kicks off.

One of the best things about Main Bakery is that it really does have a bit of everything. If you are grabbing breakfast, it is hard to go past one of the spinach and feta quiches with an iced americano. If you are there for bread, you can take your pick straight from the source. If you are more interested in pastries or sweet treats, there is usually no shortage of temptation.

The team are pretty easy-going too. Mention MAFS and you will probably have them talking for the next hour.

There is also some healthy competition happening behind the scenes. Every store is currently battling it out to see who can sell the most Hot Cross Buns this season, so if you are stopping by Main Bakery anytime soon, just know your purchase could help them take the win.

It has been a big year for this site. New bakery. New store. More room for the team, more space for customers and a whole lot more parking. But even with all of that, it still feels like the same Volare.

Just bigger, brighter and a little easier to find a park.
